چکیده

Student modeling (SM) is recognized as one of the central problems in the area of Intelligent Tutoring Systems. Numerous SM approaches have been proposed and used with more or less success. Constraint-based modeling is a new approach, which has been used successfully in three tutors developed in our group. The approach is extremely efficient, and it overcomes many problems that other student modelling approaches suffer from. We present the advantages of CBM over other similar approaches, describe three constraintbased tutors and present our future research plans.

Detecting Gaming the System in Constraint-Based Tutors

Recently, detectors of gaming the system have been developed for several intelligent tutoring systems where the problem-solving process is reified, and gaming consists of systematic guessing and help abuse. Constraint-based tutors differ from the tutors where gaming detectors have previously been developed on several dimensions: in particular, higher-level answers are assessed according to a la...

Intelligent tutors for all: Constraint-based modeling methodology, systems and authoring Contributing Authors

Intelligent Tutoring Systems (ITS) have revolutionized online education by providing individualized instruction tailored towards each student. Constraint-based tutors model instructional domains at an abstract level, a novel approach that simplifies the development of ITSs. We have developed many effective constraint-based tutors over the last decade in a number of instructional domains of vari...

Can Soft Computing Techniques Enhance the Error Diagnosis Accuracy for Intelligent Tutors?

Problems for which multiple solution strategies are possible can be challenging for intelligent tutors. These kinds of problems are often the norm in exploratory learning environments which allow students to develop solutions in a creative manner without many restrictions imposed by the problem solving interface. How can intelligent tutors determine a student’s intention in order to give approp...

Authoring Constraint-Based Tutors in ASPIRE

This paper presents a project the goal of which is to develop ASPIRE, a complete authoring and deployment environment for constraintbased intelligent tutoring systems (ITSs). ASPIRE is based on our previous work on constraint-based tutors and WETAS, the tutoring shell. ASPIRE consists of the authoring server (ASPIRE-Author), which enables domain experts to easily develop new constraint-base tut...

Individualizing Self-Explanation Support for Ill- Defined Tasks in Constraint-based Tutors

We present the first phase of a project with the goal of developing a general model of selfexplanation support, which could be used in constraint-based tutors for both welland ill-defined domains. We studied how human tutors provide additional support to students learning with an existing intelligent tutoring system designed to help students learn an ill-defined task (database modeling using th...
